Everything I've read this month is worthy of recommendation. I’ve been on a mystery and thriller kick, so the subject matter of most skew towards that genre. Let me know if you’ve read any of these and I’d love to know your thoughts!

End of Story by A.J. Finn

I enjoyed The Woman in the Window and have found End of Story almost as enjoyable. It’s a suspense novel about a young writer invited to stay at the home of her favorite crime novelist to craft his biography after he learns he is terminally ill. The story has several twists and turns that I didn’t see coming, and I particularly find his descriptions of people and places vivid. While it did drag on a bit in places, and I sometimes felt like I wanted to shout, “Get on with it already!” with one twist too many, it was entertaining enough to keep me from the lure of TikTok scrolling.

The Women by Kristin Hannah

I read this book right before my family went on a vacation in Washington, DC, and to have the wartime descriptions so fresh in my mind made seeing the Vietnam Memorial in an entirely new light. This novel is about a fresh-faced young woman who enlists as a nurse in the Vietnam War and her veteran experiences after returning home. I appreciated the uncommonly told female point-of-view of this grisly war and thought the book's first half was utterly compelling (while equally horrifying). Some of the romance was a bit over the top, and the second half left me feeling depressed and just wanting something…anything good to happen to the main character. Overall - a recommended read.

I picked this up because I loved and adored the first novel, The Maid. The main character’s quirky personality was entirely endearing and remained so in her return to The Mystery Guest. Her armchair detective adventures take us to the scene of another hotel murder, and we learn about Molly’s childhood along the way. This reads more as a cozy mystery than a true suspense novel, but it’s an easy-to-read, perfect weekend or rainy day book.

I’m a sucker for anything set in Savannah or Charleston, as they are two of my favorite cities, and who doesn’t love an easy breezy Mary Kay Andrews book. A cast of eccentric characters and plots of revenge tangled in a mysterious murder - the main character and all her adorable follies made this truly enjoyable. (Note: - I listened to the audiobook and gave the voice-over artist a solid 5-star rating).
